Hamburger SV is starting the preseason preparations with an incomplete squad. The Bundesliga team was only able to begin training a few weeks after the last match of the previous season.

What happened?

The players met at the Athleticum in Volkspark for two days of performance diagnostics. On Wednesday, they will head to the first of two training camps in Helsingör, where the first training session will take place.

Coach Merlin Polzin's squad will remain in Denmark until Saturday. The HSV squad is far from complete at the start of the preparations. The only new signing so far is defender Kofi Amoaka from second-division team Dynamo Dresden.

Who is still missing?

Additionally, Albert Grönbaek was signed from Stade Rennes. The Danish midfielder was already on loan at HSV during the second half of the previous season. Several more signings are expected before the end of the transfer period on September 1.

The Swiss player Miro Muheim and the Norwegian Sander Tangvik are currently with their national teams at the World Cup and will join the HSV team later. The same applies to striker talent Otto Stange, who is playing with the DFB juniors at the U19 European Championship. Nicolas Capaldo will rejoin the team on Thursday.

What's next?

The first training session at Volkspark is scheduled for next Monday. Another training camp is planned from July 19 to 25 in Oberlängenfeld, Austria. Hamburger SV is currently in 13th place in the Bundesliga with 38 points and a record of 9 wins, 11 draws, and 14 losses from 34 games. The team has scored 40 goals and conceded 54 this season, resulting in a negative goal difference of 14.
