Hamburger SV (Hamburger SV) will not exercise their purchase option for USA international forward Damion Downs. His loan spell from Southampton is set to conclude this summer, as reported by Sky Germany's sources.
Downs, who joined the Hanseatic club on loan in the winter, will depart after a brief return to the Bundesliga. He had hoped to contribute goals to HSV's fight for survival in the Bundesliga.
However, the 21-year-old striker failed to score a single goal in 11 appearances for the club. Despite Hamburg holding a permanent purchase option, the decision against exercising it has already been made.
Regardless of the on-field performance, journalist Florian Plettenberg noted that HSV had no issues with Downs' professionalism and attitude during his time at the club.
Since his breakthrough at 1. FC Köln, where he netted 10 goals in 29 games in Germany's second division, Downs has struggled to recapture his previous form.
Hamburger SV's decision means Damion Downs will return to his parent club, Southampton, to determine his next career steps.
