Hamburger SV dropped points in the 2. Bundesliga promotion race. On the 27th matchday, the HSV failed to score against SV Elversberg, ending the match 0-0. The Hamburger SV had two important players in its squad, striker Robert Glatzel and top scorer Davie Selke. Glatzel initially sat on the bench, as did Ransford Königsdörffer, who had previously replaced Selke with two goals in Magdeburg. Against compact and courageously counter-attacking guests, the Hamburgers initially struggled. The most dangerous shot in the early stages was a failed cross from HSV right-back William Mikelbrencis, which flew high over the crossbar. Selke, the best scorer in the second league, tried from different positions. The best chance, however, was for Ludovit Reis, who headed just over the Elversberg goal from five meters. Just before the break, HSV goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes was called upon twice. After the restart, Elversberg was almost caught off guard, but Selke again missed the shot. Elversberg then improved and threatened several times to punish the Hamburgers' wastefulness. With Königsdörffer and Marco Richter, coach Merlin Polzin brought in new offensive forces, which, however, proved to be just as unlucky. Richter shot from 17 meters onto the crossbar. The Hamburgers' record against Elversberg remains disappointing, having lost two of four matches and won only one. The Hamburger SV now has a two-point lead over 1. FC Köln, who will visit third-placed SC Paderborn on Saturday. Elversberg currently occupies seventh place.
