Hamburger SV has terminated the contract of Jean-Luc Dompé. The 30-year-old midfielder leaves the Bundesliga club after a DUI incident and lack of sporting prospects. The Frenchman joined HSV in 2022 and made 87 appearances, but he barely featured in the last season.
Why was Dompé released?
The decision to release Dompé was made for sporting reasons, as sports director Kathleen Krüger stated. The Frenchman had little playing time in the second half of the 2024/25 season and was suspended after a DUI incident in January 2026. A six-figure fine was also a factor, but HSV emphasized that the decision was purely sporting.
What does this mean for HSV?
With Dompé's departure, an experienced Bundesliga player leaves HSV. The club finished the last season in 13th place with 38 points (9 wins, 11 draws, 14 losses) and a goal difference of 40:54. The final game of the 2024/25 season ended in a 1:1 draw against Bayer Leverkusen. HSV remained unbeaten in the last four games (2 wins, 2 draws).
What's next for Dompé?
Dompé is now free to talk to other clubs. The 30-year-old is looking for a new team after his four-year stint at HSV. The club wishes him all the best for the future.
