Hamburger SV are on the verge of a double transfer. The Bundesliga club is set to sign Sebastiaan Bornauw and Terem Moffi to strengthen their squad ahead of the season opener against Borussia Dortmund. The Rothosen, who finished 13th last season with 38 points (9 wins, 11 draws, 14 losses), aim to improve both their defense and attack with the new signings.
Who is joining Hamburger SV?
Belgian defender Sebastiaan Bornauw is close to joining HSV from Leeds United. The 24-year-old, who previously played for 1. FC Köln and VfL Wolfsburg, is expected to bolster the Hamburg defense. Meanwhile, intense talks are underway with Terem Moffi, the 27-year-old striker from OGC Nizza. The Nigerian is a target for coach Merlin Polzin and is set to strengthen the attack.
Why strengthen now?
Hamburger SV’s preseason has been inconsistent. After losses to Rapid Wien (2:3) and FC Everton (1:2) and a draw with OSC Lille (2:2), the club wants to inject new energy with the signings. The last season ended with a 1:1 draw against Bayer Leverkusen on May 16, 2026. In their last four games, the team remained unbeaten (2 wins, 2 draws).
What’s next?
Contracts with Bornauw and Moffi are expected to be signed soon. Before the Bundesliga opener on August 29 against Borussia Dortmund, HSV will play two more friendlies: on August 15 against FC Toulouse and on August 24 in the DFB Cup against third-division side SC Verl. The club aims to start the season strongly with the new additions.
